Trevor2

This is another cause near and dear to my heart and I do not know WHY I haven’t written about it sooner, shame on me, I should have.

The Trevor Project helps youth in the GLBT community. They have a suicide hotline that kids can call.  They operate around the clock and have been going since 1998!! They have trained counselors to help these kids that will listen with understanding and WITHOUT JUDGEMENT, and it’s free and confidential of course!  You can also submit YOUR story to the Trevor Project! Just check out the website.

They have a place called TrevorSpace for kids 13-24 where other GLBT youths can post their profiles, make friends, etc! So if you are a youth in the GLBT community between those ages, go sign up! The place is VERY carefully monitored to protect everyone, so why are you waiting? :-)

If you live in the NY, LA or San Fransisco area you should volunteer! I can’t think of a better project to spend some time with if you can!

Here are some more links to check out:

So there you go. I really hope you all will check them out, support them and volunteer! I wish this had been around when I was a suicidal teen growing up…. :-)

I’m out!

I grew up during the dawn of AIDS.This kept many of us from coming out, when I was a teenager. We had no one there to help us,and we really saw the impact of the disease…..That soon changed ;)
During the early 90’s, I volunteered for Detroit’s first Gay community center. We decided to start a youth class and promoted it.I was shocked at the courage of these kids who showed up. They finally had a safe environment,Away from predators at bars and prejudice of the outside world. It still there today and bigger than ever :)
So I am VERY pleased with groups like this helping our youth.

Hi V- I remember the first time I saw the movie Trevor, right after it was made- it was so special! I still have it on vhs someplace. Maybe it’s on YOUTUBE. Thanks for putting it out there, anything that will pread the word on GLBT teen suicide is so needed.
    Love that little movie!
